Summer Camp Counselor Position (seasonal)
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The chosen candidates will teach summer camp classes of up to 16 campers for either ages 8-11 or 11-13. Our major focus in our day camps is to help students reconnect with nature in a positive way that introduces basic concepts of watershed education. This camp is mostly outdoors with large components of water play. Successful camp teachers have strong leadership skills, enjoy interacting with youth, and have a passion for the outdoors. This position reports to the Program Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience teaching and working with children in formal or informal settings (school, nature center, summer camp, scouts, etc)
Interest in and basic knowledge of the natural world
Willingness to get dirty and work hard in all weather (including summer heat & humidity and/or rain)
Ability to be physically active for most of a 4 to 8-hour work period
Current CPR, First Aid Certification preferred but not required
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create a safe, memorable, educational camp experience for our campers
Learn the lesson and activity plans; teach lessons and facilitate activities
Supervise & interact with campers during recreation and lunchtimes
Assure physical/emotional safety of all participants, behavior management
Camp Counselors lead/participate in all camp activities, including hiking, active outdoor play, earth science lessons, crafts, cooperative games, and more.
Contribute to facility maintenance and cleaning as needed at the end of each camp day.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs other related duties as required.
Salary: $10.00/ per hour / 40 hours per week
