Civic Engagement Event “Artivism: Our Voices”

/ In The News / By Emily Patton

WaterWays was delighted to help support Our Voices Chattanooga with their non-partisan mission to increase civic engagement among young people in our region. This event highlighted the power of the individual to spark change and inspired present and future activism through words of poetry (thanks to brilliant local poet, Erika Roberts) and ‘zine’ making. Zine making allowed participants to independently publish their own opinions, engage in creative expression, and spark hope for future movements they believed needed attention. Thanks to the downtown public library’s Makerspace (found on the 4th floor), we had an abundance of resources to create some seriously snazzy, hilarious, and poignant Zines!

A stronger Chattanooga starts with empowered and engaged citizens. We want to give a sincere thank you to WTCI PBS, WUTC, La Paz, and The Enterprise Center for hosting this special event and Our Voices Chattanooga for inspiring civic engagement. We’ll be looking forward to sharing our voice at future events with you.
