Our international team is made up of passionate individuals with a shared vision of a clean and healthy global environment.

Mary Beth Sutton

Founder and Executive Director

Mary Beth Sutton holds Environmental Science and Education degrees from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and UNC Chapel Hill, and continues to learn more about our natural world and how to protect it every day. When she‘s not in the creek, she’s likely out on the trails backpacking the Southeast.

Nadia Cazaubon

Caribbean Program Director

Nadia’s job and passion is to connect with the caribbean communities and teach them how to test and take care of their local waterways. She loves all nature; especially the sea. Her favorite moments are witnessing kids discover and experience nature at its best. Be it snorkelling or hiking, she believes it is when they share that joy that they make the connection and fall in love with nature too.

Brooke Fleeman

Assistant Director & Program Coordinator

Brooke Fleeman is a passionate environmental educator and former Park Naturalist. Her dual roles as Assistant Director and Program Coordinator allows her help coordinate day to day activities as well as get out in the creek teaching and inspiring! Her spare time is spent on the lake and hanging out with family, friends, and dogs!

Candy Clark

Development Director

Candy is a native of Chattanoogan and attended UTC graduating with a degree in Economics. She and her husband Drew have 4 children ranging in age from 19 to 28. Over the years Candy has volunteered with the Mountain Education Foundation and American Haitian Foundation. She served on the boards of The Chattanooga Bar Auxiliary, The Junior League and currently serves for The Chambliss Center for Children.

Jared Odell

Conservation Manager

Jared has a masters degree in Environmental Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he studied the physiology of rare plants and how they might fare in the face of climate change. He’s passionate about using the resources provided by the natural world to help find solutions to environmental problems. In his spare time he loves hiking, backpacking and traveling with his wife and daughter.

Rosy Harpe

Sustainable Landscape Ecologist

After graduating with honors in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, Rosy returned to her roots here in Chattanooga and joined our team! Her love and knowledge of native plants has been an amazing asset to our programs, and her energy and enthusiasm is evident whether she is digging and planning streambank repair workshops.

Colleen Edwards

Caribbean Education and Communication Specialist

Colleen is a passionate educator and environmentalist. Colleen served a term as a Peace Corps volunteer teacher in St. Lucia, which is where she became active in Caribbean summer programming and later joined the WaterWays’ Staff.

Kristen Woodall

Community Outreach Coordinator

Kristen grew up in the Chattanooga area and studied Outdoor Recreation at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  With an interest in the interdependent relationship between outdoor recreation and environmentally responsible behavior, she looks forward to inspiring Chattanoogans to reconnect with and protect the unique natural environment we share. In her spare time, you can find Kristen spending time outdoors with her sweet pup, Lyla.

Gear Closet Assistant Manager

When Randy isn‘t at the Gear Closet, he’s usually making maps for clients through his company, North River Geographic Systems. But what he’d really like to be doing is canoeing……

Thomas Trouy

Gear Closet Manager

Thomas is a former zookeeper and outdoor adventure guide who has a strong passion for the conservation of wildlife and natural places around the globe. A native of Memphis TN, Thomas spends most of his time enjoying all of the great outdoor fun East Tennessee has to offer with his family. He looks forward to meeting you at the Gear Closet and helping you get set up for your next adventure!

Peri Anne Edwards

Outreach & Education Specialist

Peri Anne Edwards has a passion for water, nature, and all of the critters! She has a B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Marine Biology and 8+ years of experience with informal environmental education. She has served organizations like AL Wildlife Center, 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center, Tennessee Aquarium, Chattanooga Zoo, Ivy Academy, and Opie Acres Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. During the spring and summer, you can find Peri Anne snorkeling in the local creeks and sunning on a rock with her husband and two dogs. Intern Spotlight!

Mary Kathryne Schumaker – 2024 Intern 

Hailing from Chattanooga, MK made her way back to the mountains of Tennessee following a stint in the swamps of Louisiana where she attended Louisiana State University. At LSU she pursued a major in Coastal Environmental Science and a double minor in Disaster Science & Management and Mandarin Chinese. She is eager to join the Water Ways and Gear Closet teams and engage in hands-on field work, education programs, restoration projects, and learn more ways to protect and sustain our watershed.
